April 14, 2010
Raul Colon, award-winning illustrator from New York, came into Cleveland to meet with NOIS members and give a very personal, close-up talk about his art, his origins and inspirations and some very candid thoughts and feelings about the state of illustrations.
Special thanks to Jamie Hills, NOIS Treasurer, for suggesting Raul as our annual guest, making the initial invitation and organizing the visit. Jamie met Raul at the airport and took him to Cathie Bleck's home, where Cathie graciously housed Raul for the night. Then Jamie and George Kocar, NOIS President, took Raul to the Cleveland Museum of Art. Afterwards, members met at Mama Santas in Little Italy for casual dinner and convervasation before Raul's presentation.
Raul spoke to over 30 people at The Cleveland Institute of Art's Ohio Bell Auditorium in their East Boulevard building. He had slides and many original pieces of art, and discussed his colorful work and the watercolor, colored pencil and scratch technique that marks his very distinctive visual style.
Anyone who couldn't make the meeting missed a very unique opportunity to hear and converse with a very talented and successful artist! Click onthe pictures to view them larger in a separate window. |
